چکیده

In this paper, we make a survey of Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol (DVMRP) andfind that it is not optimal in the aspect of network cost (NC). Therefore, we propose a modified version of DVMRP, called “Group Membership Near First-DVMRP” (GMNF-DVMRP), to decrease the NC of the multicast tree formed by DVMRP. A simulation is implemented to compare our modified version and the original DVMRP. We find that our method save about 5-7 percent of NC of the multicast tree formed by DVMRP.

Hierarchical Distance - Vector

The exponential growth of the Multicast Backbone (MBone) has resulted in increased routing overhead and processing costs. In this paper we propose a two-level hierarchical routing model as a solution to this problem. This approach involves partitioning the MBone into non-overlapping regions using DVMRP as the inter-region routing protocol; intra-region routing may be accomplished by any of a nu...

On-Demand Multicast in Mobile Wireless Networks

In this paper we propose an ”on demand” multicast routing protocol for a wireless, mobile, multihop network. The proposed scheme has two key features: (a) it is based on the forwarding group concept (i.e., a subset of nodes is in charge of forwarding the multicast packets via scoped flooding) rather than on the conventional multicast tree scheme; (b) it dynamically refreshes the forward group m...

IP Multicast Extensions for Mobile Internetworking

This paper deals with multicasting in an internetwork with mobile hosts, particularly with regard to Mobile-IP [11] and Distance Vector Multicast Routing (DVMRP) [10, 9] protocols. When the source of a multicast datagram is a mobile host (MH), the datagram may not reach all group members to which the datagram is addressed, including other mobile hosts. When the source is a static host and the m...

Performance Comparison of Mesh based and Tree based Multicast Routing Protocols in MANETs

Multicast routing is a key technology for modern communication networks. It sends a single copy of a message from a source to multiple receivers over a communication link that is shared by the paths to the receivers. This is especially appropriate in wireless environments where bandwidth is scarce and many users are sharing the same wireless channels. In particular, for WMNs, multicast can repr...
